A Paternal Instant

Artist Statement
A Paternal Instant is a painting that portrays the warmth between father and child. Geometric and organic abstractions allude to the creative nature of children, which often dies as they grow amidst the constant barrage of peer influence and the desire to conform to social standards. The draping triangular patterns and descending tendrils of goo simulate an interior to preserve that creativity.
A large father figure embraces the child and melds into the walls, pushing and pulling the space apart to maintain and nurture a child’s creativity, always seeking to understand it through the child’s eyes, protecting it from the pressures of a cruel world. The relationship between parent and child exists in many forms, and I hope to create an instance of that experience that allows the viewer to input himself or herself and find comfort.
