Caravan of Riches
by Seres Jaime Magaña
Let’s go through the river!
Because a corpse lays over the road;
The contorted body of ignorance
Blind to the struggle, to the causes… blind to life
and even though the waters
won’t wash away the blood
Let’s go through the river,
To where the truth is valued
To where human potential isn’t wasted
Let’s go through the river
because the road we follow now
corrupts us
From your eyes sprouts an endless fruit vine
an endless song
a caravan of riches
Immigrant
I know you do not come to ask for a piece of the sky
Because you are the piece of the sky we are missing
Seres Jaime Magaña is author of the bilingual play The Tragic Corrido of Romeo and Lupe, presented at the Pharr Community Theatre. Seres is an Open Mic Host and Theatre Director, and his work has been published in various anthologies. He lives in the Rio Grande Valley with his family.
