Convene
by Kathleen Halecki
Am I my brother’s keeper?
The first question to be asked,
what was the answer?
The ancients whispered divine truths,
were you listening?
Come, sit here by Job,
he is here under the tree,
take his hand in yours.
Give your shirt and your coat,
fast with him
so you hunger and thirst together,
and cast not the stone upon him,
for you do not know what road
your brother has traveled on
or what lessons he learned from his journey.
There is no you, or me, or them,
there is only us.
It was written inside of you
since the beginning of time.
I will follow you anywhere
and should you become lost
I will lead you back,
for my home is your home,
your people are my people.
When you lay the foundation for your building,
I will help you with the cornerstone,
And when you grow tired,
I will add my strength to yours
so that you may save your strength for others.
